[Lust's expression is thoughtful when she flicks on her 'gear, the device propped on a coffee table in what looks like a living room. She's settled on her couch, a stack of books visible next to her.]

Indulge my curiosity...

Does anyone else come from a world where the predominant entertainment is radio? Much as I enjoy television and films, I miss a good radio drama. There's something to be said for allowing the imagination to fill in the pictures.

They're like television shows, only everything's spoken. The actors speak their dialogue but a narrator fills in everything else. It leaves a great deal up to the imagination.

Everything, really. I'm partial to mysteries and adventure stories, myself.

Oh, I don't know. I suppose if I thought about it...

[There were certainly those that she'd enjoyed listening to more than once.]

I liked rather strange stories.

[shatterings]

Strange stories... like what?

[a_sin_for_him]

Like the one about the man who opened his kitchen pantry door and stepped into a dark nightmare world full of snake people. And the woman who was only wind.

[shatterings]

Snake people... that sounds a bit scary. But very strange.

Wind? How was she able to take care of herself? Go places?

[a_sin_for_him]

I don't know. She was simply a voice on the wind that he heard.

It was a very strange story.

[shatterings]

It... must have been very lonely.

[a_sin_for_him]

Yes, that was part of the story.

She trapped the man in that world, so she wouldn't be alone anymore.

[shatterings]

[ It sounds all too familiar, and she looks significantly more unsettled. ]

... What happened... in the end?

[a_sin_for_him]

He became nothing but wind, too.

[shatterings]

... Was he happy with her?

[a_sin_for_him]

I don't know. It didn't say. Simply that he couldn't find his way home, no matter how he tried, and eventually he became nothing but another voice on the wind.

It was only a story.

[shatterings]

I... mm. Yes. Of course. Only a story...

[a_sin_for_him]

There was one about a train powered by dreams, too. And a man who sold his voice to win a bet.

I'm sure they were happy with each other, in the end. What other choice did they have?

[shatterings]

A train powered by dreams... that doesn't sound so bad.

[ Pause, and she looks down. Still dwelling on the story. ]

But... if he didn't want to be there in the first place, could he... ever be truly happy?

[a_sin_for_him]

If he's not a fool.

We rarely get what we want, when we do it's nothing short of a miracle. For the most part, we all simply have to learn to be happy with what we're given.

[shatterings]

I... I suppose you're right. I wonder....

[ She trails off, thinking to herself. The story'll be on her mind for a while--and it's certainly troubled her, quite a bit. ]
