"Maybe it's one of those things you aren't meant to fully understand. Where what you take from it is more important than what happened or how." Lust sipped her milk - she'd put a few drops of liqueur in hers - and moved to sit beside Scar on the floor.
Scar looked up, but not directly at her when she sat next to him. It still didn't cross him as odd to be sitting on the floor. It made it easiest for the Pokémon to stay close, and he wasn't used to having furniture.
"That's not something anyone else can tell you. It was your experience. I don't know what you took from it, other than the memory of your brother's voice." She offered him the glass of plain chocolate milk.
"And it's just happened. You're still shaken. Don't expect all answers and revelations to come in the blink of an eye, they never do." She spoke from experience.
Scar's expression darkened. A cloudy memory couldn't have possibly been the point in all of this. Was there even a point at all? He doubted it.
He couldn't deny that he was shaken, though. He gave her a bit of a look when she actually handed him chocolate milk. He felt like a child, for goodness' sake.
"Maybe I'm just more okay with being given this chance," he finally muttered.
"It was somehow restoring the places affected by the fighting. I asked it of it brought us all here, and it didn't seem to answer. But when I thanked it, it aknowledged that, in some way." He couldn't quite place how, other than that a warm feeling had washed over him.
"What you make of that is up to you. I know if it were me...I'd think that indicates that the thing that brought us here wants us to be happy. Or at least try. Maybe that's what it does. Restores things that have been greatly damaged."
Scar sipped at his milk, still not entirely used to the sweetness of some foods here. He finally looked up at Lust, weary and sad. He couldn't put what he was thinking and feeling into words, but he assumed she would understand.
Damaged things. That was what they were, wasn't it?
Cautiously, Lust placed her hand over Scar's. She understood.
"We'll be alright. You'll be alright." He could accept that he had another chance, and perhaps now he could begin to embrace it for what it was. A chance for some happiness and healing after so much undeserved pain and misery.
Something tensed in his chest when Lust reached out to him, but he didn't pull away from her. He stared dumbly at their hands, hyper aware of the feel of her skin on his. Still, nothing felt right to say. Scar was stuck for a long moment, torn between returning her comforting gesture and shying away.
But that was how it always was, wasn't it?
His hand moved under hers, only a bit. Only enough to acknowledge her. He wasn't even entirely aware if what he was doing, only that it was making him tenser and more relaxed simultaneously.
Lust sat in silence with him for a while, loosely holding hands and drinking her drink. It was a comfortable silence, as far as she was concerned, and she had no interest in breaking it with idle chatter. There was nothing really left to say, not right now.
Guttle came over to doze near them and Lust found herself growing sleepy from the quiet comfort and the liqueur she'd put in her drink.
"I imagine you're ready for proper sleep," she finally said, turning her head to glance at Scar. "I can find you something comfortable to wear, there's an empty guest room."
Scar was silent and still for the while, sleepy and more comfortable that he would have liked to admit. When Lust finally spoke up, he hesitated. He didn't want to go sleep in some alley after having a proper roof over his head, or scrape money together for a cheap motel.
But all the same...
"I'll be fine." He wouldn't rely on her, and he wouldn't stay in the same place as Envy.
"I didn't come here to take up space." Scar slipped his hand away from hers and returned his Pokémon to their balls for now. There was quite a bit of fur left over on his trousers. He stood up, suddenly uncomfortable with everything that had just happened.
"It's empty space. No one's using it. It's senseless for it to stay empty when someone could use it." Lust stood up as well, fixing Scar with a firm but affectionate look. "A friend is offering you a place to sleep for the night, don't let your stubborn pride cheat you out of a much needed bed."
"Scar....please." Lust frowned. She hated begging, but she hated more the thought of him bedding down in some park or wherever it was he slept.
"I'd feel better if I knew you were safe in a bed tonight. No one's going to bother you, you aren't imposing on anyone...let me get you pajamas and just take the damn guest room for the night."
Scar paused, his teeth clinched together. She just had to go that route with this, didn't she? How was he supposed to say no? He didn't care when people thought him prideful or foolish.
"Alright, fine." She wouldn't argue. He'd accepted the bed.
"Here. It's down this way." She led him out into the hallway and through the quiet house, to the currently unused guest room. She was just grateful she'd gotten him to agree.
"You'll be comfortable in here. The door even locks on your side."
Scar was stubbornly silent as he followed Lust to the guest room. He set his bag down against the bed and let out his Pokémon. He wouldn't leave them in their Pokéballs overnight if they were someplace comfortable. A few were already dozing.
At least the door locked.
He sat on the edge of the bed and slipped off his shoes, avoiding her eyes.
Scar frowned up at her, almost as if confused. He shook his head as he pulled his jacket off and set it on the edge of the bed. Now, he was annoyed with himself. It was always the same thing. She was kind to him, he grew irritated for no reason, then he regretted it. He deflated, slightly, his shoulders drooping as he looked away, turned into himself. He shook his head again, this time more slowly.
Why did she even try?
Miriam jumped onto the bed, waiting patiently for him to lie down so she could take her place on his chest for the night.
"No, I didn't think so. But I'm down the hall if you need anything." Lust watched him for just a moment from the doorway, aware of but not thinking on the fondness she felt for him. She was glad he was staying, that she'd know where he was and know he was safe. And close by. It was oddly reassuring.
"Goodnight," he finally said quietly, looking up to give her an apologetic sort of look. And she was still smiling. Scar's eyes lingered on hers for a moment too long, and he glanced away, pulling his legs onto the bed and picking up his sleepy Skitty.

"That's more than enough to take from it. You said whatever you spoke to was benevolent, didn't you?"

She doubted he did, but she'd make the offer anyway. She wanted him to know that she would, if he wanted it.
