There were very few people in my life who weren't simply things to be used. Most of them likely deserved it. But not all. I feel poorly for them. For what I did to them.

I didn't always have friends. There was a long time when I didn't see people as anything but a means to an end. It was different, of course. Our roles were to two different ends.

The fact that we feel regret at all is proof of our humanity.
